Feet up

Sketch inspired by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Antony Gormley’s ballet “Sutra” which I saw at Sadler’s Wells in London a couple of years ago.  Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui held himself on his head, so straight, and so still for a few seconds with such an ease… I drew this sketch right after having seen the performance, together with the very first entry on this blog (“Sutra”).  I had forgotten about it until a conversation with a stranger in the Eurostar just before Christmas reminded me of it and how much it mesmerised me and creatively inspired me.  I decided to revisit my drawing and to post it.

To me, the performance is closer to theatre than ballet.  Visually stunning.  Very “Gormley”.  You might remember Gormley’s outdoor installation in Central London in 2007.  I had thought of such project before Gormley put the whole thing together.  I feel very in tune with his universe.  Anyway, if you would like to get a taste of what “Sutra” looked and sounded like, visit this link: http://bit.ly/2uhQgk.
