Cy Twombly died last Tuesday and I thought I would pay tribute to the man. He was a painter of the abstract, chosing repetitive lines and massive canvas. There was a big exhibition of his work at London Tate Modern in 2008 and I can’t believe I didn’t go. Though, I know why I didn’t go. At the time I had never heard of him and I thought “who is this pretentious young artist who thinks he has invented the wheel”. I then found out later on that he was 80 years old at the time and that he had actually invented the wheel…his own wheel. It is very interesting how a man who was born in a complete different time reached such an extreme point in abstract, conceptual, painting.

The story I started two posts ago will continue of course – this post is just an interval!
